(#114) Carrot Ginger Sorbet: Featuring Turmeric, Lime, and Honey!

I've only made a few sorbets before this Summer. But I've been really enjoying putting together some flavor combinations that wouldn't necessarily work as ice cream flavors. Like Carrot Ginger.

I used fresh carrots and ginger and threw in some lime juice, honey, and a bit of precious turmeric for this sorbet. Yes, it's really good for you--another reason why I love making sorbets! They're all so refreshing and still very satisfying.

(#111) Thai Iced Tea: Earthy, Bold, and Orange.

Thai Iced Tea Ice Cream has been on my list forever. It was in the running to be flavor #100, as it pretty much sums up Scoopsies in a flavor (I've never, ever seen this one in an ice cream shop). Bold, intense, earthy and very orange--this one is a hit. It also tastes JUST like thai iced tea!

(#110) Coconut Chai: Not Really Vegan

This one's a coconut milk-based ice cream (but with a bit of heavy cream and egg yolks--sorry, vegans!). Coconut and chai = BFF.

(#109) Mystery Cookie: I'll Never Tell.

Mystery Cookie -- it's a dirty little secret in ice cream form.
Here's the scoop on #mysterycookie: It's six cookie varieties in ONE flavor. If you try Mystery Cookie at any future Scoopsies event(s) and guess all of the cookies correctly, you will be deemed "The Ultimate Cookie Monster" and win a gallon of Mystery Cookie and...a Golden Cookie. Your guesses must include brand and type of cookie and I can only tell you if your six guesses are correct as a whole. All are considered "cookies" on their packaging.
Hint: There are two of the same type of cookies in Mystery Cookie, though they are different brands.
You'll never guess unless you truly are a Cookie Monster. Happy guessing, you little piggies!

(#107) Ginger Beet Root: You Can't Stop the Beet!

You can't stop the beet (root)! I made this one for a Game of Thrones finale party as an ode to Ygritte (along with Theon Greyjoy's sausage and meatballs and deviled dragon eggs).

The recipe for Ginger Beet Root is up on Zooey Deschanel's HelloGiggles along with two other GoT-inspired flavors, Sansa's Espresso Lemon Cake and Tyrion's Mulled Wine Ice Cream.
You can top with pistachios if you're NUTS.

Comin' up: Bananah Peanut Buttah & Honey, Miso Pineapple with Salted Caramel Swirl, Rosewater & Cardamom, Mystery Cookie, and Thai Iced Tea Ice Cream! Don't you just love ice cream season!?

(#100) 365 Days and 100 Flavors Later...FLAVOR #100!

One year and 100 scoopsies later, I have completed my goal of making 100 ice cream flavors in 365 days.

I'm about to plop on my bed and take a week-long nap, but before I do, here is FLAVOR #100! I picked this flavor as my last because it seemed like a challenge. As it turns out, the process was approachable and really fun! It feels like every flavor that had an aspect that intimidated me at first turned out to be pretty simple (i.e. the candied ginger I made for (#66) Ginger Chocolate Chunk, the pie I made for (#98) Stroopwafel & Limburgse Vlaai, cutting up and roasting chestnuts for (#83) Chestnuts Roasting, and making mochi balls for (#35) Green Tea). So this flavor truly does sum up "100 Scoopsies." It reinforces the biggest lesson I have learned during this project--anything is doable! I've learned that through these flavors and the project as a whole!

Now, without further ado, here it is--#100. Fried Fried Dough Ice Cream: a cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar ice cream with pieces of homemade fried dough that is nestled in a fried shell.

Pre-fried balls!

Now it's time to have a glass of wine and toast to an AMAZING YEAR!

THANK YOU ALL FOR FOLLOWING ALONG ON THIS ADVENTURE! There's so much more delightfulness to come!

{#99} BOSTON CREAM PIE: The City of Ice Cream

Boston--a city filled with some of the best and most reasonable drivers in the world (myself being one of them), the tastiest burritos, and home to some of the most influential ice cream pioneers and connoisseurs. It is a city that, despite being freezing cold for seven months a year, has always respected ice cream. It is a city that I'm proud to call home, because with so many charming ice cream shops, I feel at home

Boston Cream Pie, the official dessert of Massachusetts, was created by an Armenian-French chef in 1856 at the Parker House Hotel and recreated in ice cream form by Scoopsies in 2014! It is a vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge and custard swirls. And it's wicked scrumptious!

Big thanks to Monique and Lauren for suggesting this one!
Scoopsies' Boston Cream Pie Ice Cream is made with: heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, pure vanilla extract, egg yolks, cornstarch, corn syrup, unsalted butter, bittersweet chocolate.

(#97) NECTARINE GELATO: Delizioso!

Finally, a gelato.

For those of you who don't know much about gelato: it is Italian-style ice cream made with more milk than cream and typically more sugar. It is denser than American ice cream because a gelato maker churns at a slower speed. I still think about the Chocolate Gelato I had in Venice--it is a completely different experience from ice cream but an equally delicious one!

Scoopsies' Nectarine Gelato is made with: whole milk, nectarines, vanilla bean, heavy cream, egg yolks, and sugar.

(#96) CARAMELIZED BANANA WALNUT: "Dunston Chunks In"

Working at J.P. Licks, I would get all the free ice cream I wanted. I would go through flavor phases every few months, but my all-time favorite was "Lumpy Primate," their version of Ben & Jerry's "Chunky Monkey." Banana with bits of walnuts and chunks of chocolate.

So I made my own "Lumpy Primate"--caramelized bananas, candied walnuts, and chunks of bittersweet chocolate. And instead of calling it "Chimpanzee with a Weight Problem" (my Mom's clever flavor name!) I'm taking my boyfriend's suggestion and naming it "Dunston Chunks In."

Here it is!
Scoopsies' "Dunston Chunks In" is made with: dark brown sugar, Bananas, butter, cinnamon, walnuts,  bittersweet chocolate, egg yolks, whole milk, heavy cream.

(#94) CHOCOLATE CHIP CANNOLI: Holy Cannoli

I'm at flavor #94 (holy...cannoli...six left!) and I honestly mean it when I say: THIS IS MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE! More than "S'moresies" and Ginger Chocolate Chunk

However much I ignore it, I'm lactose intolerant and rarely eat more than a few bites of ice cream at a time. But I've been devouring this one and craving for it when I'm not near my freezer.  It makes me want to use ricotta in all of my flavors. Ah, so good! So good! Want a bite?

Scoopsies' Chocolate Chip Cannoli Ice Cream--bon appetit!

(#93) CARDAMOM LEMON: The One and Only Cardamom

A few weeks ago, I ate at my first Afghani restaurant. I ordered Kofta Challow and more importantly--cardamom ice cream.  I have a real soft spot for cardamom, mostly because of the kick it gave (flavor #1!) Turkish Coffee I've used it quite a bit throughout the project, actually, but never really gave it the attention it deserved.

I loved taking a bite and tasting the cardamom without the distraction of a coffee flavor or other (equally lovable) spices.

A vegan version of this flavor was suggested by my friend Jan Marie. I didn't choose the vegan one for my blog, but it does work well with coconut substitutes!

Scoopsies' Cardamom Lemon Ice Cream is made with: cardamom pods (crushed), whole milk, heavy cream, lemon juice, lemon zest, sugar, egg yolks

(#92) SWEET NUT CHERRY VANILLA: And One For My Dad...

I asked my Dad what flavor I could dedicate to him. He came up with Sweet Nut Cherry Vanilla. Toasted walnuts cooked in maple syrup and cherries in a rich vanilla bean base (look at the specks--they're like stars!) Very fitting for my Dad who is a sweet nut!

Scoopsies' Sweet Nut Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream is made with: vanilla beans, whole milk, heavy cream, cherries, walnuts (toasted), maple syrup, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla extract.

(#91) CHOCOLATE SORBET: Mom's Favorite

This one's for you, Mom!

Scoopsies' Chocolate Sorbet is made with: bittersweet chocolate, unsweetened baking cocoa, water, sugar, and vanilla extract.

(#90) THE PARENT TRAP: Peanut Buttah, Oreo, and.....?

"I love oreos. At home I eat them with...peanut buttah!"

Flavor #90 (ahhh!) is a special throwback to one of the best movies of all time: "The Parent Trap." Since I am honoring the LiLo version of the film (obviously), the flavor had to be spiked--peanut butter, oreo, and Bailey's. It's delicious. Now, excuse me while I put my VHS in and eat some PB & Oreo (ice cream) with the girls!
Scoopsies' "The Parent Trap" Ice Cream is made with: peanut butter, oreos, Bailey's Irish Cream, heavy cream, whole milk, egg yolks, sugar,

(#89) SRIRACHA CHIP: The Srirachapocalypse Is Over!

A few months ago the Srirachapocalypse began when the Huy Fong factory was ordered to temporarily shut down. Production has since resumed and we can all continue to use and abuse sriracha like there's no tomorrow.

This flavor, of course, is not for the faint of heart. My mom said it "tasted like pizza" and...she loved it. I, on the other hand, certainly could not eat an entire scoop.

Would you try it?

Scoopsies' Sriracha Chip Ice Cream is made with: whole milk, heavy cream, sriracha, chili powder, egg yolks, sugar and dark chocolate

(#88) BLACK SESAME: The Color! The Taste!

A few people have requested Black Sesame Ice Cream and at #88--here it is!  I loved making this one!  Black sesame seeds are so cute (yes, cute!) and they smell soo good after you toast them. The flavor tasted a lot like peanut butter (as expected) and the color--who isn't intrigued by gray ice cream?

Scoopsies' Black Sesame Ice Cream is made with: heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, black sesame seeds (toasted), and egg yolks

(#86) AVOCADO: The Fruit of Fruits

Avocado--the fruit of fruits. My absolute favorite. I could lock myself in my room and eat guacamole ALL day (not that I've ever done this. Seriously. I haven't! I swear. I really haven't! Okay...I HAVE!)

I didn't think I would be revisiting the "alligator pear"--Chocolate Avocado Ice Cream was flavor #3, and I made Basil Avocado a few weeks ago (a flavor that was never posted to the blog). But a few days ago my friend described a perfect avocado smoothie she had at a Domincan restaurant in Jamaica Plain. How could I not reunite with my beloved fruit friend one more time? This time there would be no chocolate, no basil--just avocado (and a hint of lime).

Avocado smoothie with almond milk.

(#85) PB & J: Peanut Butter & Jolie

This one is for my twin sister, Jolie. Last week, she put in a request for "Peanut Butter & Jolie" so I went ahead and made it for her.  As I'm in the homestretch of this project, my last flavors are all really personal and some are odes to the people who have inspired me the most. While my sister has never made ice cream (and can't even eat it!) I'm inspired by her "hustling" attitude. Scoopsies owes a lot to my sister (and her boyfriend, Jeff, who has been designing my logos in exchange for Anna's Taqueria). And even though she can't try PB & Jolie, I wanted to show my gratitude by dedicating one of my last "scoopsies" to her.

Trouble makers. This was probably taken right before we shut off our brother's Zelda game, one minute before he was about to beat it!
Us twins with our friend S.C.

Now, back to the ice cream...(sort of...)

Deciding on the "Jolie" was easy...
Not too long ago a friend of ours had saved a few newborn kittens from a shelter that was going to put them all to sleep. They were taken away from their mother too soon and were in very poor health.  Jolie adopted one of the kittens and named her Raspberry.
Raspberry could fit in the palm of your hand and would meow if you left her alone for more than fifteen seconds.

Raspberry had to be rushed to the animal hospital on more than one occasion, and the vet told Jolie that it was unlikely she would make it. Raspberry bounced back and today she is a healthy feline inspiring homemade jams for my ice cream.

Peanut Butter & Jolie ice cream is a peanut butter base with a Raspberry jam swirl.
Scoopsies' Peanut Butter & Jolie Ice Cream is made with: peanut butter, heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, egg yolks, raspberries, and vodka.

"I hate ice cream, but I love Scoopsies."--Jolie

(#83) CHESTNUTS (ROASTING): A Post-Christmas Song

Better late than never, right? This flavor, along with Pumpkin Pie, wins the award for most labor-intensive. Roasting, preparing, and cutting chestnuts up is quite a process.  It was worth it because I've never even had a chestnut before!

Scoopsies' Chestnut Ice Cream is made with: chestnuts:  roasted and shelled, heavy cream, whole milk, light brown sugar, egg yolks, vanilla extract, dark rum
