(#87) TURMERIC: Ice Cream for the Enlightened

Friends from my many different life "chapters" have been supporting Scoopsies--from the first two friends I ever made to my current co-workers to the guy who bagged my groceries at Trader Joe's last week. One of the best parts of this project is how it has reconnected me with old friends.

My friend Bethania, who I don't believe I've seen since High School (almost 10 years ago--nuts!), suggested I make a turmeric flavor. She sent me her recipe for a turmeric drink with  ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, and honey in warm milk, which has replaced my nightly cup of lemongrass tea.  I drink it with almond milk and every sip is so soothing!
I just had to make it into a flavor!

Turmeric ice cream--a scoop a day keeps the doctor away!

Scoopsies' Turmeric Ice Cream is made with: whole milk, heavy cream, honey, sugar, turmeric, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, ground black pepper, and egg yolks.

(#65) PERSIMMON HONEY: Fall Fruits of Haymarket

I hadn't even heard of persimmons until I went to Haymarket last weekend.  My friend has a stand there and when I asked what they tasted like, he cut one up.  My first thought was "this would make a tasty ice cream!"

We paired it with a little bit of honey and the result is subtle yet sweet.  If we weren't running behind on our 100 flavors, I would have loved to try this flavor with some cardamom. How delightful is the Fall?

Scoopsies' Fuyu Persimmon Honey Ice Cream
(yields 1 quart)
2 cups puréed fuyu persimmons
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbl honey
6 egg yolks

(#53) LAVENDER HONEY: The Loveliest of Flavors

We're officially on a lavender kick!  Our White Chocolate Raspberry Lavender was so inspirational that we had to make a second lavender flavor.  We liked this one so much that we premiered it at our latest event.  And we'll be scooping it up again at our next few events, as it is now a Scoopsies favorite!

Would it be going overboard to do another lavender flavor? Maybe Chocolate Lavender? Let us know if you have any lavender-related suggestions because we're on a roll!

1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 1/2 cups whole milk
